Elly Mulvany Co-ordinator of Portsmouth Street Pastors was among the guests that gathered in London for the ministry’s conference to share their experiences and consider how they can reach out to the people out and about on Britain’s streets.

The conference was addressed by London’s lord mayor Boris Johnson.

He told those attending he's unhappy at the way some Christians get into trouble for sharing their faith. He says believers should be free to preach while volunteering:
“Faith groups who want to slip in the odd coded message in favour of salvation, I have absolutely no problem with that and why not!”
“That’s one of the things that I think has been going wrong in the last few years. We have got a slightly politically correct super-sensitivity to anything that can be remotely classed as religious advocacy. And frankly I’ve got no difficulty with it whatsoever.”
Portsmouth Street Pastors continue to make an amazing impact on the streets of our city. James Goodship – Publicity Officer reports that New Street Pastors are now settled into their teams with several trained as “Senior Street Pastors”.
“We are blessed that God has sustained this ministry beyond the initial two year stage and are excited as we really start to see the “fruit” of our work on the streets. Making a difference – We have engaged with 7186 people in Portsmouth city centre between 10-3am: Calming aggressive situations 200, Supporting people who are vulnerable 543, Flip Flops given out 350, Bottles/glass 2200.
We are encouraged by the increasing number of faith conversations each night, in particular with members of the armed forces who are emotionally fraught by the conflict in the Middle East. Referrals have lead to a meeting between the naval base chaplain and Elly to see how we can be better equipped to support military personnel in the Guildhall area.”
